After a couple days of engineering work the Okeanos Explorer just deployed its new ROV 60 nm east of Virginia. Today’s dive site in 500 meters of water was identified last week during a multibeam survey.  The dive today will be devoted to evaluating modifications to the ROV’s thrusters and hydraulic system and hopefully characterizing the seep site. Due to the late start the dive is expected to be fairly short with an estimated recovery time of 1830 EDT.
