Overnight Mapping on the Sigsbee Escarpment

1830 (Central): ROV Deep Discoverer is secure on deck and the ship is underway conducting mapping operations. We will map an area of the Sigsbee Escarpment east of Bryant Canyon overnight. Tomorrow, we plan to dive on the western wall of Bryant Canyon, conducting a transit up the wall starting about 2800 m deep to search for deep-sea corals. During our descent to the seafloor we will also investigate animals in the water column, conducting 15 minute transects at 800, 900, 1000, 1100 and 1200 m to identify pelagic animals including those that may be prey for deep-diving whales. We plan to deploy the ROV at 0830 Central. Join us and see what we discover!
