Mapping Resumed

NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer has entered US waters and mapping operations have resumed. We also just  deployed the Salinity Snake and are collecting continuous surface salinity data.

Mapping in International Waters

NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer is currently mapping in international waters. We have already mapped a number of features that were previously unknown based on satellite altimetry.

Mapping in Costa Rica

NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer has entered Costa Rican waters and continues to collect high resolution seafloor bathymetry, water column and seafloor backscatter, and subbottom profiler data. Operations are going well and the data looks great so far!

Underway

NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer has departed Panama City, Panama and Leg 2 of Topical Exploration 2015 has begun! Today’s operations will include safety briefings and drills, equipment training and setup, and commencing exploratory mapping.
