On to Karin Ridge

The Okeanos Explorer completed its mapping efforts on the Johnston Seamount group this morning. This work has revealed some tremendously interesting and complex features including large undersea landslide features, steep rugged cliffs, and numerous cone-shaped features likely associated with volcanism. These newly discovered features will provide ample exciting dive location targets for the September Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) cruise to this region. The ship in now transiting over to conduct additional mapping work on Karin Ridge, a 200 mile long chain of undersea mountains.
