Dive 03 off South Point, Hawai’i

ROV Deep Discoverer is on the seafloor, approximately 450 m deep today conducting a continuous transect. The objective of today’s dive is to investigate a deep-water precious coral community that has developed since its formation 147 years ago, following the 1868 high volume lava flow from Mauna Loa that extended to depths greater than 500m off the southwest coast of Hawai’i.
