Revealing Seamounts and helping to monitor cetaceans near Wake Atoll

First time exploration of massive undersea mountains near Wake Atoll continues! So far on this expedition eight seamounts have been completely mapped, and we still have six full days of mapping left within this part of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument before the ship undertakes the six day journey to Guam. This morning we successfully recovered and deployed a High-frequency Acoustic Recording Package (HARP) that records the vocalizations of cetaceans in order to better understand these amazing animals in this extremely remote location.
