Dive 14: Pigafetta Guyot

ROV Deep Discoverer is on the seafloor ~1,990m deep exploring the Pigafetta Guyot – a cretaceous flat-topped seamount located just to the east of the Marianas Trench. The objective of today’s dive is to explore for high density communities of deep-sea corals and sponges and to conduct an initial characterization of manganese-crust habitats on one of the presumed oldest seamounts on the Pacific plate. We are currently experiencing problems with the live video and are actively working to fix it! Stay tuned and explore the seafloor with us!
