Dive 11: Seamount D

Today’s dive will start at a depth of ~3,000 meters as we explore an unnamed seamount (“Seamount D”) just outside of Rose Atoll Marine National Monument. The goal of this dive is to generate baseline information on the geology of this unexplored seamount and to learn more about its deep-sea habitats and biological communities. American Samoa’s Division of Marine and Wildlife Resources has expressed an interest in the seamounts in this region as long-line fishing activities are conducted in the area. We expect to reach the seafloor around 10:50am SST.
