Dive 02: Horizon Guyot

NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer has arrived at the dive site, Horizon Guyot, a very old Cretaceous seamount located in the northern section of the Johnston Atoll Unit of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument. Although Horizon Guyot has been explored previously, this area of the guyot has not – providing us with an excellent opportunity to get the first glimpse of this unknown region. This dive will explore the edge of the guyot at an area where a landslide has occurred. Our anticipated depth is approximately 2,000 meters (~6560 feet). The remotely operated vehicle deployment is delayed while the ship troubleshoots a dynamic positioning issue.
